May 18: Haitian Flag Day

Writer's picture: Gabe LouGabe Lou

May 18th…

Day of the

Zoe Flag…

Freestyling my

appreciation

on this notepad

you used to bring up Zoe’s

& it’d be like, so sad

but these days

we embrace that

so you can hold dat

considering our history

it just showed that

resilience’s instilled

been that way

since throwback

they’d even humiliate,

said we ate whole cats,

but say that now

might catch a machete

where ya throat at

turn the page of history

& it would show that

slavery would test it’s waters,

(we should know that)

but you should also know

for a people who got

got scolded

for arriving on a boat

we’d flip the script

so fast

them “folk” could either tag team

or get a toe tag,

“koupe tèt, boule kay”

written where our soul’s at

it’s ya life

& them white folk

can’t control that

but an earthquake hit

& as a country,

we would rollback

economically,

tho poor,

still rich, right where our soul’s at,

lost many loved ones tho,

So I pour out this cognac,

It’s many reasons why,

with pride

we hold our Zoe flag

so a

shoutout to my ole boy

and my bro’s dad

❤️💙
